Results Update

In reviewing the performance of the many students at Smart Moves Coaching Australia, we found some pleasing results. We found that the majority of our students were achieving in the top 10% of their classes and, on average, students improve their internal rankings by 10% to 25%.

Last year, of our 105 students from 17 different schools:

  • 7 won Premier awards for over 90% in 10 units for the HSC
  • 4 or those students were in the top 1%
  • 63 students achieved marks above 90% in subjects that we tutored them in

However, it is not just those that achieve high marks that make us proud. At Smart Moves we hold great value in self improvement and trying our hardest. In this spirit, we also wish to congratulate and mention our other 20 students who we helped from struggling to pass to achieving Band 5 results by the end of their studies.

Pre-HSC Holiday Events

HSC Seminars

Every holidays we hold a series of seminars that provide students with an opportunity to organise all of the information that they had attained throughout the term. This is of greater importance just prior to sitting the HSC as it prepares students and their knowledge for the focuses that the HSC will require.

The seminars will be run between October 5 and October 18. The classes run for 90 minutes and will contain a maximum of 10 students each in order to avoid the impersonal nature of large classes whilst still allowing students the opportunity to share knowledge with each other.

Currently, we have seminars for English up to Extension 1 level and both Modern and Ancient History. Seminars for other subjects will be offered if there is enough demand.

    Date: TBA

    Time: TBA

If you wish to enrol in one of our holiday seminars, please send us an email at reception@smartmoves.com.au. Other contact options can be found here.

HSC Mock Exams

Following a very successful round of HSC mock exams prior to the trials, we are running another round of mock exams to prepare students for their HSC. These mock exams will be held during the first week of the upcoming holidays. Take a look here to see what our students said about the pre-trial mock exams.

Bookings are essential for these mock exams as past experience has shown us that they become full very quickly. To make a booking, please send us an email at reception@smartmoves.com.au. Other contact options can be found here.

Mock HSC Exams a Success

On the 24th of July 2009 we ran the 1st AOS Mock HSC Exam for this year at our Roseville offices. It was set by our experienced staff who have a combined 35 years of teaching HSC English. Once again, our mock exam was a great success with two sessions this year due to a high demand. Students, tutors and markers were all very happy with the results.

Our second mock exam will be held in the September school holidays, about 3 weeks prior to the HSC. Bookings are essential through reception.

Here is some of the feedback we received from the 20+ students who took part:

The mock exam was great and helped me a lot to study for my trials and also to see what I needed to study for the exam. I knew the marking would be fair as well, as we were giving codes to keep it anonymous. The feedback lesson was a great way to point out where and how I could improve. I will do it again without hesitation. I have already recommended my friends to do it! – Kristy, Roseville College

The Mock Exam – like it was great!! Thanks, Walter it really helped me organise my time. – Andrew, Hunters Hill

Hey Andrew you were right! Doing the Mock HSC gave me the insight into how to write the Creative Belonging Narrative and Section 3. – Tim, Riverview

Geez thanks Flo for recommending the Mock AOS Paper 1 to me. I got some better strategies for doing the HSC. – Sam, SCEGGS Redlands

I learned that I need more preparation put into my essays. – Hayley, Roseville

HSC English Extension 2

Students will submit their major work, a journal and their reflection statement to the Board of Studies. Students are expected to spend the entire year working towards this goal, which can be daunting. The English Extension 2 unit expects students to work without the instruction and tuition they have been provided with until now. One on one tutoring can help students organize their ideas so that they are able to cope better with the challenges of working independently.

The major work is a text compiled by the student can essentially encompass whatever the student wishes as long as it is justified and documented through the journal and reflection statement. What we can help with is encouraging the student by broadening their horizons and introducing different ways in which we can write and communicate with our readers, studying genres and forms as well as exploring fiction and non-fiction.
