‘Why choose tutoring?’

‘Well, we teach in a cooperative learning style and this AOS Seminar Summary uses this method/information. It is an example of our Personal response learning style…’

Seminar Plan for Paper I AOS

Day 1 – Paper One

  • Common visual and literary technique overview, use a past paper to illustrate common mistakes (eg: spending forever on a 1 mark question – if time permits, a timed section 1 practice exam).
  • Top Tips on C.W (Keep it simple, have a coda etc) as well as an analysis of past C.W examples (I have a few exceptional ones) to demonstrate what techniques can be employed to create an effective short story.
  • Essay Structure Review (and paragraph structure within).
  • Roundtable discussion on the concepts of Belonging.
  • Thesis building (I would like to place emphasis on this, sooo many students struggle with this, as you know).
  • Choosing good quotes.
  • Analysis of Related Texts (I have a few good ones as well).
  • Merging all this into a structured essay, I commonly get my students to explore a theme under headings (topic sentence, elaboration/relating to text, quote, technique, effect on audience, reiterate thesis) and think this would be a great way to reiterate the importance of structure.
  • Then, again, if time permits, a practice timed essay (students would need to bring their texts).

    Seminar Paper 2 Modules

    Day 2 – Paper 2

  • Overview of what each module requires.
  • Review of essay structure and how this can be manipulated in order to serve the needs of each module.
  • Timed practice essays.
